🤖 CPU System Overhaul

The CPU system works fundamentally the same as before, but with important changes in RE2:

📈 How It Works

  • Multiple tiers of CPU extenders, each increasing your maximum CPU limit
  • Standard extender limit: 2 per type (most types)
  • Auxiliary CPU extender limit: 4 (new bonus!)
  • CPU limits overall have been lowered, but blocks also use less CPU

👪 Specialized Crew - The New Power Source

This is the biggest change: Standard crew no longer provide any CPU bonuses. Instead, RE2 introduces specialized crew positions that boost CPU while providing additional bonuses.

  • Place specialized crew to increase your effective CPU capacity
  • Different crew types provide different secondary bonuses
  • This adds a new layer of ship/base management strategy
💡

Strategy tip: Plan your crew placement carefully. A well-staffed ship can effectively double its CPU capacity compared to an unstaffed one.

📈 Blueprint Updates Needed

If you have existing RE1 blueprints, they will need updates:

  • Capital Vessel solar panels removed - Replaced by new plasma turbines
  • CPU extenders changed - Size, name, and max count may differ
  • Check CPU, power, and thrust on all your ships after updating

🛠 Weapon Tier System

Weapons are organized into 3 tiers with shared hard limits. This fundamentally changes ship combat strategy.

Ship TypeSmall WeaponsMedium WeaponsHeavy Weapons
Small Vessel (SV)842
Capital Vessel (CV)24126

These limits are shared between manual weapons and turrets. For example, a CV could have:

  • 6 manual heavy weapons + 6 medium weapons + 6 medium turrets + 24 light turrets
  • Any combination totaling within the shared hard limit
⚡

DPM Normalized: Average damage per minute is balanced within each tier. The main differences are how weapons apply damage, target bonuses/penalties, and unique traits.

Shield Penetration

Some weapons now have shield penetration, dealing a percentage of their damage through enemy shields. This applies to both player and POI turrets.

🚀 Thruster Tiers

Each size of thruster now comes in 3 tiers, allowing you to upgrade in-place instead of replacing with a larger version.

TIER 1
Basic Thrusters
Good for small vessels and light builds
TIER 2
Advanced Thrusters
Balanced power and efficiency for medium vessels
TIER 3
Heavy Thrusters
Maximum thrust for capital vessels and heavy builds

Building tip: Balance your thruster placement. A good rule of thumb is 6 on the back, 4 on the front, 6 on the bottom, and 6 on top for maximum stability.

⚡ Power Requirements Overhaul

Power requirements have been completely reworked in RE2:

  • Lights use less power relative to larger devices like thrusters and weapons
  • The ratio between small and large device power consumption has changed significantly
  • Plan your power grid with this in mind - you can now pack more lights per CPU unit
⚠

Plasma Turbines: Capital Vessel solar panels have been removed and replaced by plasma turbines as the primary power source for larger ships.

🛡 Armor System

The armor system has been fundamentally changed. Light, Medium, and Heavy armor are no longer upgrades over each other - each is better for different situations.

👁 Light Armor

Best for maneuverability and EVA operations. Lower weight allows faster movement and better agility in space combat.

🛡 Medium Armor

Balanced protection and mobility. Good all-around choice for most situations and planetary exploration.

🚸 Heavy Armor

Maximum protection for frontline combat. Heavier but provides superior damage resistance in direct engagements.

Quality Tiers

Each armor type has 3 tiers of quality, with increasing booster slots:

  • Tier 1Standard version (craftable) - 2 booster slots
  • Tier 2Enhanced - 3 booster slots
  • Tier 3Premium - 4 booster slots
⚡

Good news: Armor boosters no longer have negative stats. They always give only positive bonuses. No more losing all your armor because you equipped an EVA booster!

🛑 Building Tips & Best Practices

  • Always check your CPU count - Overloading will disable blocks and leave you vulnerable
  • Redundancy is key - Build backup power sources and extra CPU extenders
  • Weapon balance matters - Mix of shield penetration + direct damage weapons works best
  • Test before committing - Build small prototypes before large-scale constructions
  • Save blueprints regularly - RE2 changes frequently; your designs may need updates
  • Join the Blueprint Factory - Use it to test pre-made designs and learn optimal configurations
⚠ Important: CPU limits, power requirements, and weapon stats may change throughout beta and even into release. Always verify current values on the latest scenario version.
