Reforged Eden 2 features a massive galaxy with dozens of star systems to explore. This guide covers the three major exploration mechanics, including the travel overhaul that changed how you fly between stars.

🌌 Why Explore?

The galaxy is full of rewards for those willing to venture beyond their home system:

  • New resources - Different star systems have unique ore deposits and planet types
  • Faction missions - Complete contracts for credits, reputation, and rare items
  • Exploration tokens - Visit different systems to earn tokens that unlock tech tree features
  • Rare loot - Wreckage, abandoned POIs, and alien structures contain valuable materials
  • Jump gate networks - Discover shortcuts across the galaxy through ancient gateways

🕑 Jump Gates

🕑 How Jump Gates Work

Jump Gates have been completely overhauled. They now use Empyrion's built-in jump-gate mechanic, making travel between star systems far more intuitive.

How to Use

  • Fly through them - Simply pilot your SV or CV and fly directly through the gate. No complex activation sequence needed.
  • Repair first - Gates must be repaired before they can be used. Look for repairable components on approach.
  • 30-second cooldown - There is a 30-second cooldown between gate activations.

What Changed

  • No longer requires a warp drive or pentaxid tank
  • No longer consumes pentaxid for the jump
  • Removed jump gate options from Science Station (no longer needed)
  • Removed repeatable intro mission (tutorial popup covers basics)
📋 On this server: Jump Gates are fully enabled. If one doesn't work, report it to an admin - it isn't switched off.

🔗 Jump Beacons

🔗 Your Home System Anchor

Jump Beacons let you set a home system and warp back to it from anywhere in the galaxy. Handy for getting back to your main base after long trips.

How to Set Up

  • Build the block - Unlocked in the Base tab of the tech tree, available after Advanced Teleporter
  • Place on your base - Must be placed on a base while you are in a space playfield
  • Set home system - Interact with the beacon to designate that star system as your home
  • One at a time - You can only have one home system set at any given time

How to Jump Home

  • Pilot an SV or CV in space
  • Activate your Micro Jump Drive
  • Select the new "Jump to Home System" option
  • After a countdown, you will warp to your home system's primary star

Details

  • Flat pentaxid cost - Same cost regardless of distance
  • Unlimited range - Jump home from the farthest galaxy corner
  • Long cooldown - Significant wait time between uses
📋 On this server: Jump Beacons are fully enabled - no blacklisted systems, standard cooldowns.

❊ Stable Wormholes

❊ Random Galaxy Travel

Stable Wormholes are mysterious portals that transport you to random destinations across the galaxy. Mapping them can reveal handy shortcuts.

Where to Find Them

  • Most normal space orbits and asteroid fields
  • Rare chance to appear regardless of faction territory
  • Show on detector as a wormhole visual
  • Linked to one of about 20 random destinations across the galaxy map

How to Jump Through

  • Approach the wormhole in an SV or CV
  • Come to a complete stop inside the wormhole
  • A pop-up will appear with the jump option
⚠ WARNING: Stable wormholes only allow travel in one direction. You may not be able to easily get back! Always set a Jump Beacon before going through one.

Exploration Strategy

  • Set your home system first - Use a Jump Beacon so you can always find your way back
  • Map the connections - Keep track of which wormholes lead to promising systems
  • Bring supplies - You might end up far from home with no easy return route
📋 On this server: Stable Wormholes are fully enabled.

💡 Exploration Tips & Tricks

  • Always bring survival supplies - Pack extra fuel, pentaxid, oxygen, and food on every expedition
  • Read planet descriptions - Gravity values above 4.0 can trap your ship permanently
  • Avoid Zirax POIs unprepared - They are among the most dangerous encounters in the galaxy
  • Watch for purple/abandoned labels - Legacy POIs house lots of aliens and nasty creatures. Loot only if heavily armed!
  • Alliance with Kriel - If allied, they leave alien flora worlds alone
  • Sell at markets - Large optronic matrixes can fetch 47-52k credits each depending on trader prices
  • Use the detector - Scan for wormholes, POIs, and resource-rich planets from orbit
